Greg Hammond


Greg has over 40 years’ public sector experience including 15 years in senior project management positions across the Commonwealth and ACT Governments.  Greg’s former positions include Assistant Secretary, Project Management Branch, Overseas Property Office, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT); Executive Director, Capital Works, and Infrastructure, Justice and Community Safety Directorate; and Director Project Delivery, Property &Construction, Department of Finance.  He also has 26 years of Defence experience.


He has a continued commitment to growing future leaders as a mentor with IPAA and remains aligned with contemporary project management practices through his 16-year engagement with the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM), and as a former Sessional Lecturer at the School of Engineer, and Information Technology, UNSW.  Greg joined UNSW in 2022 as a part-time lecturer. 

Greg provides also provides contract services to DFAT, providing strategic, risk-based advice in the planning and delivery of highly complex international construction projects, in some of the most challenging environments. His projects include the new Australian Embassy, Washington D.C., and Australian Off-site construction to support Abuja, Nigeria, and Funafuti, Tuvalu projects. His duties also include complex contract negotiations and dispute resolutions and professional advice and support for Parliamentary Standing Committee notifications and public hearings. Mentoring and support for current and future senior leaders also remain a focus.

Greg has planned and delivered a diverse portfolio of projects and is experienced in most forms of construction contracts including Head Works, Design and Construct, Managing Contractor, Construction Management, Public, Private Partnerships, GC21, FIDIC, AIA, Early Contractor Involvement, Design Assist, and Project Management Agreement.
