The Australian literary journal Meanjin was founded in Brisbane in 1940 by editor Clem Christesen. Published quarterly and featuring Australian poetry, fiction, commentary, interviews, reviews and scholarly essays from significant Australian and international contributors, it was originally titled Meanjin Papers. Upon invitation of the University of Melbourne, the publication was relocated in 1945 and retitled Meanjin from 1947 to 1960, Meanjin Quarterly from 1961 to 1976, and again Meanjin from 1976. From 2008 Meanjin became an imprint of Melbourne University Publishing.
