Single bit analog-to-digital conversion is attractive for GNSS receiver systems, since it greatly simplifies the analog and digital circuitry in the receiving system, at a modest performance cost.
Modern Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) support hundreds of differential input pairs that would be ideal for the analog-to-digital conversion task, as well as synchronous processing of the resulting parallel signals. This leads to the possibility of very large aperture GNSS receiver arrays capable of receiving a high quality signal from all visible satellites.
