The collection includes correspondence, typescript drafts, galley proofs and published copies of short stories by Edmund Fitzgerald, including The five o'clock cow (1980); 'The choreographed corpse caper : a collection of detective and mystery stories' (1988); 'Beyond the call' and 'Where will I put my legs ...?'.
Edmund Fitzgerald was born on the 7 October 1925 in Melbourne, and was educated at Box Hill. His short stories have been published and broadcast on radio. Fitzgerald lives in Canberra.

In 1980 Rigby conducted a literary competition in conjunction with the Adelaide Festival and The five o'clock cow won the $2000 Humour Award. Most of the stories in this book had been published in the Canberra times or in various fishing magazines.
