Biographical Note

Words and visions magazine had been produced to allow freedom of expression to any individual who felt that he had an experience worth sharing artistically. Issue No. 1 comprised a mix of poems and artwork published in a semi-professional manner; by Issue No. 18 (Summer/Autumn 1985) the quarterly magazine was a glossy, professional publication, with articles on artists of different media, short stories, photographs and comments about artworks, and paid advertising. By this time, assisted by the Government of South Australia Department for the Arts and the Literature Board of the Australia Council, Words and Visions Arts Showcase, had established a publishing company and published books on poetry, short story anthologies, novels and children's literature, for example A change for the better : short stories (1984) by Peter Mathers, Tales from Corytella : the collected stories of Flexmore Hudson (1987) compiled and edited by Adam Dutkiewicz and "I" is a versatile character : stories (1986) by Jenny Boult. By late 1985 when no more grants were awarded, and Adam Dutkiewicz was plagued by ill health, the magazine was forced to close.

Adam Dutkiewicz began writing in 1972 under his teacher Flexmore Hudson. In 1978 he began Words and visions arts magazine, which he ran for 6 years. Since 1984 he has been establishing WAV as a fresh direction in South Australian publishing.
